What is Clairvoyance?

So we touched on the clairsenses in my last blog now we are going to start breaking each of them down a little more because I think there is a lot of confusion around what they actually are. First up is clairvoyance.

Clairvoyance is often described as "clear seeing." When we talk about it in mediumship, we're talking about receiving information visually. That doesn't necessarily mean you are standing in your kitchen and suddenly see a dead person standing in front of you like something out of a horror movie. For some people it can look like experiencing an apparition but for a lot of people it is much more subtle and less holy shit terrifying.

Clairvoyant information can come through as a picture in your mind, an image, a person, a place, an object or just a particular color out of the blue. Sometimes it is something you recognize immediately but it can also be something you have absolutely no idea what to do with until later. You may see someone's face, a house, a particular item of clothing or something that seems completely random until you find out why it was important to the person you were connecting with.

This is one of those things that can be difficult to explain because there is a difference between intentionally imagining something and receiving an image that you weren't trying to create. Your brain is constantly imagining things, remembering things and making connections, so obviously not every picture that pops into your head is clairvoyance. But there are times when an image comes through so clearly and so unexpectedly that you stop and think, "Where the hell did that come from?"

Clairvoyance doesn't always happen with your eyes open or feel like you are physically seeing something in front of you. A lot of the time it happens in what people call the mind's eye. You may close your eyes and see something very clearly or you may have an image come into your mind while you're doing something completely unrelated. Some people describe it almost like watching a little movie in their head while others get more of a still photograph or a quick flash of an image.

Plot twist, isn't something that is exclusive to mediums either. You may have experienced clairvoyance yourself without ever realizing there was a name for it. Maybe you've had a very specific image pop into your head for no apparent reason. Maybe you walked into a place and suddenly had a picture of something that happened there. Maybe you have had dreams that were incredibly vivid and later seemed to connect to something in your life. There are a lot of different ways these experiences can show up.

I'm not saying every random thought, dream or image means you are clairvoyant. Sometimes a thought is just a thought and sometimes your brain is doing what brains do. But if you have repeatedly experienced visual information that seems to come from somewhere other than your normal conscious thought, it is worth being curious about instead of automatically dismissing it.

For mediums, clairvoyance can be one of the ways information from the other side comes through during a reading. A medium may receive an image of someone who has passed, see something connected to their life or receive a visual impression that gives them information about the person they are connecting with. When I receive information via clairvoyance in a reading I directly share what the person in spirit has shown me. It is not up to me to interpret why or the significance, it is my responsibility to pass it on though.

However, not every medium who experiences clairvoyance is going to experience it in the exact same way. Just like we talked about in the first blog, there is no one size fits all approach to mediumship. One person may see things very clearly while another may get quick flashes. Someone else may receive mostly symbols or colors. Some mediums may experience clairvoyance alongside clairaudience or clairsentience and have several different types of information coming through at the same time.

My biggest take here is clairvoyance should be reduced to "seeing spirits." That's certainly one way it can show up but it can be more than that. Sometimes the information has nothing to do with seeing the person who has crossed over. It may be something connected to their life, something they want to communicate or something that helps the medium understand who they are connecting with.

If you have ever experienced something like this yourself, you may be sitting there thinking about some of those moments now. Maybe you've had an image pop into your head that you couldn't explain or you have seen something in your mind that later turned out to have meaning. Maybe you've always thought you just had a really vivid imagination. Maybe you never thought twice about it. It doesn't automatically mean you are a medium or that every strange visual experience you have is clairvoyance but still worth paying attention to.

That's a wrap on clairvoyance, make sure you stay tuned for the next clairsense!
